SAS Badge
SAS Badge - Winged Dagger
The Special Air Service was formed in 1941 by Capt David Stirling who served with (No 8 Guards Commando) and Jock Lewis an Officer in the Welsh Guards.
Both men wanted a special force of commandos to drop behind enemy lines and cause the maximum amount disruption and mayhem...
Unfortunately Jock Lewis was killed on December 31st 1941 whilst carrying out a deep penetration patrol shortly after the formation of the service.
The badge represents the Dagger of the commandos, whilst the wings represent the means of insertion by parachute into the battle area. David Sterling who was captured in 1943 survived the war and was knighted in 1990.
